Legal information

Privacy and cookies

This site collects no personal data. There are no forms, there is no active newsletter, there are no cookies and no resource is loaded from third-party servers. What follows I write because it is owed, not because there is much to declare.

Who answers for these pages

The texts are signed Frater Custos, which is a declared pseudonym: the reason is explained on the Method page. The address, for any matter including this one, is fratercustos@proton.me.

This needs saying plainly, because it is a choice and not an oversight: the European Regulation requires the data controller to be identifiable, and a pseudonym with a mailbox does not fully satisfy that requirement. The practical consequence is that so long as the site stays as it is — no form, no list, no data collected — there is no processing to declare. If and when I open a newsletter or a contact form, this page will be rewritten first, not afterwards, and with the details of an identifiable controller.

What data I collect

None. There are no sign-up forms, no fields to fill in, no basket, no members' area. If you write to me at the address above, I receive your message and your email address as I receive any other post: I use them to reply to you and for nothing else, and I delete them when the exchange is closed. The mailbox is with Proton, in Switzerland, which the European Regulation considers a country with an adequate level of protection.

Cookies

None. Neither technical nor profiling, neither mine nor third-party. That is why there is no window to close when you arrive: there is nothing to ask your consent for.

What is not here

No traffic analysis system that identifies people. No typeface, no image, no script and no embedded content loaded from external servers: when you open any page of this site, your browser contacts no other domain. No social buttons. No transfer or sale of data, because there is no data to transfer.

The server logs

The pages are served by Cloudflare, which like any hosting provider technically records the IP addresses of requests in order to run the service and defend it against abuse. That is the provider's processing, not mine: I have no access to those logs, I do not consult them, and I have enabled no statistics that use them. Cloudflare's terms are public on its own site.

Your rights

If you have written to me, you may ask me at any time to know what I keep of that exchange, to correct it or to delete it, at the address above. For everything else there is nothing on which to exercise a right, because there is nothing collected. Anyone who believes their data has been handled improperly may apply to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or to the supervisory authority of their own country.

Minors

The site is not directed at children under fourteen and knowingly collects nobody's data, theirs included.

Intellectual property

The texts and the illustrations are the work of the author. Quotations from the works of others are given within the limits of the right of criticism and research, with the source indicated. Anyone who believes a piece of content infringes a right of theirs may write to the address above: I remove or correct it, and I record the fact in the register of corrections.

Updates

If I change anything substantial I write it here with the date, and I note it in the register of corrections, which is public.

This English version: 20 September 2026. The Italian version, which is the one I wrote first, is here.
