What is told: Fairies of small stature, able to fly, shy and benevolent, exceedingly cruel if offended or if looked at straight in the face. They weave and spin at night with magical looms and threads of gold. They inhabit the domus de janas.
What it was forthe author’s reading: Aetiology of the landscape: they explain the thousands of prehistoric rock-cut tombs scattered across the island, incomprehensible to peasant culture. It is the purest example of folkloric archaeology in Italy. In addition: interdiction of caves and the codification of women's night-time work.
